Lizzie Thome is a teacher, a life long learner, and an explorer. For The Explorers Club, and currently serves as the program chair for the New England Chapter where she have spearheaded diversifying NEC’s programming to include all six New England States as well as both in person and virtual events so that the programming is accessible to a wider range of our chapter membership. In 2019 she co-founded and still continue to run the NGEN Speaker Symposium during ECAD weekend, highlighting the work of the next generation of explorers. She has both volunteered and attended ECAD weekend and dinners since becoming a member, as well as participating in Lowell Thomas Awards weekend, Monaco Day of Exploration, World Ocean Week and coordinated field trips to Headquarters for students.

Her area of exploration interest is in education, particularly around marine and wildlife conservation, space, and climate action. I have studied sea turtles in Baja, Mexico, been on a NASA mission for SOFIA, and participated in a NGEN expedition to Cambodia studying the Cantor’s Giant Softshell Turtle.
